The first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars Original series The Acolyte showcases the forces of darkness colliding with the light as the Jedi are being hunted and killed by a mysterious assassin.
The new Disney+ series is set towards the end of High Republic era and follows a Jedi Master, played by Lee Jung-jae, who comes face to face with his former Padawan, played by Amandla Stenberg, as they travel down a path of darkness. The series also stars Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
The High Republic was considered to be the height of the Jedi Order with the Sith all but considered extinct. It’s easy to see based on the trailer and promotional material that The Acolyte will likely explore the Sith’s rise in power during this time set before The Phantom Menace. Where Amandla Stenberg fits in the picture has yet to be seen but clearly she walks the path of the Dark Side.
The Acolyte is set to premiere on Tuesday, June 4 with the first two episodes with the remaining six being released on a weekly basis. Series creator Leslye Headland will direct the first two episodes followed by Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108).
