Finch

Finch

Finch formed in Temecula, CA in 1999 and released their first EP, Falling into Place in 2001 on Drive-Thru Records.  The band's first full-length record, What It Is to Burn, was released in 2002 and has been considered one of the best post-hardcore releases of the 2000's.  The album was produced by Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182) and features a guest appearance on two songs ("Grey Matter," "Project Mayhem") by Daryl Palumbo of seminal rock band Glassjaw.  Finch followed What It Is to Burn with their sophomore record, Say Hello to Sunshine, in 2005 via Geffen Records.  Over the next 7 years the band toured and went on various hiatuses until their reformation for the 10th anniversary tour for What It Is to Burn.

SHAKEFIRE (SF):
Did you always plan on doing something special for the ten year anniversary of What it Is To Burn?
RANDY STROHMEYER (RS):
Nope...Just kinda happen. Sure glad it did… Been a blast.
SF:
How does it feel to know how important this album was and currently is to this generation?
RS:
I feel its important to a very specific group of people. Though WIITB was a successful record its still just for certain people… People who were 15 to 25 in 2003 to be specific.
SF:
What did WIITB mean to you as a band?
RS:
It is everything… It launched us… Without it I would have 9 kids and a house in the burbs.
SF:
Did you ever think, while writing this album, that people would respond the way they did?
RS:
I knew we were making a good record. We all knew it. However none of us thought it would do as well as it did… That would be pretty cocky and Finch is not cocky… Well maybe a little.
SF:
Do you plan on doing anything special for the Tenth anniversary of Say Hello to Sunshine?
RS:
Not sure… Has not been much discussion. I am sure we will do something… Not as big as the WIITB tours though.
SF:
What bands would you most like to tour with if you had your choice?
RS:
DRIVE LIKE JEHU.
SF:
Which albums would you like to see an anniversary tour for?
RS:
YANK CRIME
SF:
What have you been up to since Finch disbanded in 2010?
RS:
I'm pretty much a scientist. Scientist shit You know… Beakers and what not.
SF:
What does Finch have in store for the future, following this tour's wrap up?
RS:
Your guess is as good as mine...
