ABC Adds 'Bad Management' Starring 'Pulling's' Sharon Horgan and more

ABC is getting into the management business, ordering a workplace comedy as well as a dysfunctional family vehicle and mom comedy to pilot.

Bad Management is a single-camera comedy about a slightly self-centered female boss at a high-end luxury goods department store who finds her way challenged when the boss' son comes to town and makes youth and sex the new company focus.

The ABC Studios, Kapital Entertainment entry will be written by Holly Walsh (Dead Boss) and Sharon Horgan, the writer/exec producer/actress behind British import Pulling, an adaptation of which also scored a pilot order at the network this season. Horgan will star as the boss in the comedy and executive produce the network's Pulling pilot.

Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan will executive produce, marking the former TV agent turned prolific producer's fifth order of the season. Management joins NBC's Gates, ABC's Pulling, an untitled Cullens effort and CBS' Friends With Better Lives in contention.

Morgan's credits also include Free Agents, Dead Boss and Big Babies. Bad Management reunites Horgan with her Dead Boss co-creator Walsh. The Jennifer Saunders comedy has aired six episodes so far on BBC Three.  

Meanwhile, the dysfunctional family comedy pilot order hails from Accidentally on Purpose's Andrea Abbate and revolves around Karey, the clean-nosed black-sheep a family of petty thieves, drug addicts, and narcissists - but when her brother is sent to prison, she decides to raise his kids along with her adopted African American son and give them the normal lives they deserve. 

Abbate will pen the pilot and executive produce the 20th Television single-camera comedy alongside 21 Laps/Adelstein's Shawn Levy, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.

Finally, the network ordered to pilot Middle Age Rage, a single-camera comedy from Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. The project centers on a middle-aged mother, who is fed up with feeling invisible and begins to speak up and demand the respect she feels she’s earned.

Rage will be penned by Malibu Country’s Cheryl Holliday, with Smash’s Falvey and Frank attached as executive producers on the half-hour effort from ABC Studios and Amblin TV. The pair is also behind CBS’ summer effort Under the Dome as well as TNT’s Falling Skies.

The pickups bring the network's comedy tally to 10, joining Mixology from The Hangover writers; Adam F. Goldberg's How the Hell Am I Normal and Rebel Wilson's Super Fun Night, among others. On the drama side, ABC has 11 hours in contention.
