David Bowie vs. Bon Jovi for No. 1 on Next Week's Billboard 200

On next week's Billboard 200 chart, rock legend David Bowie is in the hunt for his first No. 1 album, while veteran group Bon Jovi could nab its fifth chart-topper.

Industry sources suggest Bowie's "The Next Day," released yesterday (March 12), is on course to sell around 90,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, March 17. The set is his first studio album since 2003's "Reality," and will mark his first top 10 album since 1983's blockbuster "Let's Dance" peaked at No. 4.

Perhaps surprisingly, Bowie has never tallied a No. 1 album. Of his 39 charting sets -- stretching back to his "Hunky Dory" debut in 1972 -- his highest-charting album is 1976's "Station to Station," which peaked at No. 3.

As for Bon Jovi, the rock band's new "What About Now" album (also released March 12) might sell around 90,000 or so as well this week. If it edges out Bowie, it will be Bon Jovi's fifth No. 1 album -- and third straight studio set to top the tally. The act's two previous studio releases (2009's "The Circle" and 2007's "Lost Highway") both entered at No. 1.

Bon Jovi's two earlier No. 1s came with 1986's "Slippery When Wet" and 1988's "New Jersey."
