Artist: Carbon Leaf Album: Nothing Rhymes With Woman Members: Barry Privett, Terry Clark, Carter Gravatt, Jason Neal, Jon Markel Label: Vanguard Records Tracks: 13 Type: LP Release Date: May 19, 2009 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Carbon Leaf plays a sort of generic rock that would go well at a college student function or a city music fest. You know the kind. It’s catchy enough to bob your head to, but not so intrusive as to interrupt a conversation with your friends over a beer. That’s not to say that this is a bad album…just one where not much stands out. They know how to put together a nice tune, like “Miss Hollywood” or “Another Man’s Woman.” And the subjects of the songs are widely accessible; mostly some form of reflection on love and problems with the fairer sex. And that’s about it. At least, that’s about all that stood out to me after a few listens. Perhaps you’re a fan from their previous seven full-lengths. If so, you’ll probably dig this. But I have a hard time seeing this winning over any new people. |
