It’s out, Halo 4 and I’m here to write the review for it. No, I’m not talking about the highly anticipated video game but the original soundtrack for that game. Composed by Neil Davidge, a man who has worked with Mos Def, Snoop Dog, and David Bowie, Halo 4’s soundtrack was a cd that gave me some thought as I tried to figure out how to write my review. This 1.2 hour long soundtrack features 15 tracks that take the listener for a little adventure and a little relaxation.
With having no game or any reference to go off of while listening to this soundtrack, I had to just imagine that I had played the game. Which it does quite well with tracks like “Awakening” that has this quick and intense beat going on that made me think that if I were in a rush this would be the song I would play to get me moving. There’s also a few tracks that slow down the pace, not sure how they will fit in a game that’s about shooting, but the slow pace of these songs gave me a breather that I needed after so many of the intense tracks.
These songs were well composed, they have a nice diverse sound to them, there’s a lot of emotion going on, and I think they will fit nicely with the game. There are all sorts of different sounds being used on the songs to give them all a unique beat. One thing I noticed is that the some of the songs will go from being fast and intense to a slow, mellow beat. I didn’t know what to expect when I was listening to the CD, which I liked most of all about this CD. One minute I’m feeling like I’ve been running then I’m listening to a song that made me want to take a nap. This soundtrack isn’t one that has the most complex composed songs on the market but it does feature songs that will make for a good companion for the video game.
