Artist: Polar Bear Club Album: Clash Battle Guilt Pride Members: Jimmy Stadt, Chris Browne, Nate Morris, Erik Henning, Tyler Mahurin Label: Bridge Nine Records Tracks: 11 Type: LP Release Date: September 13, 2011 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Polar Bear Club dropped it's third album last month. Clash Battle Guilt Pride is a post punk tour de force. I have to take the word of others as to what PBC's earlier albums sounded like, but I've heard that this is both a return to their roots and a departure from their usual fare. While still full of punk music energy, the songs of Clash Battle Guilt Pride also have, at times, a lyrical nature - a real crafted quality without being overproduced, deliberate and yet still full of freedom. Openning with "Pawner" and following it with "Killin It" delivers a one-two punch not many bands can manage. The first song begins softly and builds into power, the second is power all the way through. With a start like this, you might expect the rest of the album to fall apart, but it holds together well, solid until the finish nine tracks later. I'd honestly never heard of Polar Bear Club before this, but the strength of this release is enough to put them on my watch list for the future, and songs from Clash Battle Guilt Pride will make there way onto many of my playlists. |
