Artist: The London Philharmonic Orchestra Album: Greatest Video Game Music Volume 2 Genre: Classical Label: X5 Licensing Tracks: 17 Type: LP Release Date: November 6, 2012 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B The London Philharmonic Orchestra take another crack at video game music in the second volume to their collection of The Greatest Video Game Music 2 featuring songs from games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7, Super Metroid, and Halo. It’s not easy tackling nostalgic classics from video games but for the most part the album holds up pretty well. One-Winged Angel from FF7 is pretty awesome and The Kingdom Hearts tune, Fate of the Unknown is pretty solid. You do have your hits and misses such as the Zelda Windwalker tune Dragon Roost Island which has a very warbled underlying classic Zelda theme on the bottom of all the layers of sound that just doesn’t do it justice. A miss would have to be Portal’s Still Alive which is ruined by the vocals. All in all though LPO does a pretty solid job at giving the full orchestra sound and distinct vocal work to songs old and new. While not as good as the first installment of the series it most certainly doesn’t make me wish that it was the last.
