If you were fortunate enough to get your hands on the incredible Blu-Ray release of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood then you’ll already know how awesome the series looks in high definition. As I watched that release for review I was blown away by the color, line definition, and audio presentation that gave you a real in home theatrical experience. When I found a copy of Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star Of Milos Motion Picture in my workload I figured I knew how awesome it was going to look already. I was wrong. The Season One, Part One release of FMA: Brotherhood looked amazing but Star Of Milos transcended that standard.

The FMA: Brotherhood series had a distinct look to it that allowed you to see it as a comical action adventure, but also with a bit of a sophisticated edge as well that allowed the jump from funny to deadly serious happen in a very fluid manner. The motion picture carries that quality, kind of, but where it excels beyond the series it truly transcends. Take for example, in one scene where we see a panning shot from the bottom of a valley up to the edge of the uplands the picture becomes so immaculate that you can only see this particular scene as a live action presentation, it’s that perfect. Colors seemed a bit more vibrant, see Julia’s yellow (April O’Neill type) coat, or the outlying ruins of a valley city. There are some soft scenes, particularly when the Elric’s find themselves in an underground location, but for the small soft sections like these the rest of the film outshines anything FMA has had to offer thus far. Another plus is the audio which, if you’ve read my Funimation reviews before, can do no wrong. It’s bombastic where it should be, clear during dialogue, intermixes effects, music, and everything else well within the confines of the overall delivery. Funimation has their audio sections down to perfection.

Bonus features for Sacred Star Of Milos include a Making Of Featurette, U.S. Cast Commentary, Theatrical trailers, Web Promo, TV Spot, U.S. Trailer, and Trailers for other Funimation releases. Be sure to listen to the commentary track at least once, particularly where Vic Mignogna is concerned. Yikes. Other then that fans and newcomers will absolutely be enamored by the film.
