Factoids:

Director Richard Donner also directed Lethal Weapon and The Goonies. Scrooged had Anne Ramsey (The Goonies), Mary Allen-Trainor (Lethal Weapon), and Steve Kahan (Lethal Weapon, and also Donner's cousin). Another interesting factoid is that when Murray and his real life brother John Murray are walking down the street and encounter a street band the members of that band conists of: Jazz legend Miles Davis, Letterman band leader Paul Schaffer, composer David Sanborn, and guitarist Larry Carlton.

Everybody has a favorite holiday movie. For some it might be It’s A Wonderful Life (personally one of my favorites) or maybe A Christmas Story (a film I slowly grew out of) or you might even be a Scrooged fan. Nothing says holiday spirit like the tale of Frank Cross (Bill Murray), a mean spirited TV executive whose hopes and dreams for the Christmas holiday are to “Scare the Dickens out of people” so that they’ll stay in and watch his channel’s Christmas special and boost his ratings. Since this is Charles Dickens immortal classic Scrooge turned on its ear; Frank cross is in for the night of his life as he is visited by three ghosts (well really four if you count his old boss), an ex-flame, and feelings that he had long since thought dead about the holiday season. In my house, this film is a classic, and it was more then a treat to see it brought to Blu-Ray. So how did it look?

QUALITY:
As you could have already guessed the film isn’t as immaculate as it could be. There is still a fair amount of grain but the film has been cleaned up and polished to look relatively good. In most scenes black levels are inky deep and color is robust with very few soft shots to mess with your viewing experience. To  make it short and sweet, the majority of the film looks fantastic. Again, its not immaculate, but man it looks twenty times better then it ever did on television, VHS, or DVD. Audio presentation is brought to you with a DTS-HD MA  5.1 which unfortunately requires you to raise the volume a bit to get all of the dialogue, special effects, and Danny Elfman’s score to level out. Still, it’s a vast improvement.

BONUS FEATURES:
Unfortunately there is only a trailer for the film here. I wish there could have been more but, well, there you have it. Hopefully a little further down the line they’ll improve on the film and re-release it with maybe some “Where are they now” type features, behind the scenes, even some pieces on the musicians that starred in the film. Time will tell. In any case the cover for the BD is a holographic sleeve which is mind boggling, if you can consider that a bonus feature.
