Interesting Tidbits

During high school, Sheryl Crow was an All-State track athlete and won medals in the 75-meter low hurdles

Sheryl Crow is an extremely talented singer/ songwriter and her gifts are perfectly showcased on this blu-ray concert performance in L.A.’s Pantages Theatre. Sheryl did a little bit of everything during the concert from playing the piano and keyboards to rocking on the guitar to singing her heart out. She is a true musician at heart and excelled at everything she did during this concert performance.

She sang 2 hours worth of songs and hits from her 7 album catalogue. I have seen her live in concert before and already knew she was awesome performer. However, the sound on this blu-ray movie was so awesome that it made you feel like you were right there sitting in the front row. Sheryl didn’t need help from back tracks and sang with so much feeling and soul. My favorite songs performed were “If it Makes you Happy,” “Soak up the Sun,” and a medley with “All I wanna Do” and Marvin Gaye’s “Got to give it Up.” She did not disappoint and was full of energy from the beginning to the end.

There were some odd things I did notice during the concert performance. It was very stripped down and her band was awkward to look at while performing. Besides the mood lighting changes and the occasional background change, there weren’t too many visuals throughout the concert. I understand they wanted to focus on Sheryl, her talents, and her music, but people go to concerts for the full on experience. She is a very attractive singer and did not even have a costume or wardrobe change for the whole performance. Also, her band members were on the unique and peculiar side. Her drummer made unusual faces when playing, her bass player wore a dog collar and a long black shirt (that looked like a dress) over jeans, and her guitar player wore a referee shirt and a police jacket. She did not have to be as extravagant or flamboyant as Lady Gaga or Britney Spears, but some visuals would have enhanced her performance.

Sheryl Crow was fast paced and continued the momentum until the end. Her encores and her band’s solos were mind blowing, but some visuals would have added to that. I loved her singing, but the overall performance was on the dry side. Until she adds some fireworks or more variations in her backgrounds during the performance, I am giving this blu-ray a “B.”
