cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy) and Phil Western (Frozen Rabbit) release their eighth LP of instrumental post-industrial trance music on Metropolis Records. A 10 track affair that proves to be of the noise avant-garde genre combined with danceable grooves and a nostalgic flare for electronica of yesteryear combined. The album is an experimental amalgamation of sounds that is reminiscent but all together something new.

From the get go the album is obviously not going to be for everyone. Anyone who hasn’t explored the electronic/industrial genre, and I mean really stepped off the beaten path, will more then likely turn their noses up at the abstract way in which the album combines a bit of chaos with a steady danceable beat that flirts with the hardness of EBM while staying rooted in a techno/trance like sound that keeps the music more or less light and enjoyable. If you don’t feel like dancing to it and just want something to listen to LangAm is a good go between.

My favorite track off the album would have to be Kundi. It was a track that was light, didn’t appear to have a lot going on, but if you have a good pair of headphones you can make out layers and layers of sound on the track that makes it a great track to just chill out to. As far as danceable tracks go one of my favorites has to be Yoni. The track has a steady groove behind it layered with abstract little bleeps and blips that give the song character if you just want to sit back, again with some good headphones, and pick at the layers of sound. Like the rest of the album it has a constant thread of sound that will keep you listening to see if you missed something the first time around. Good stuff.
