“The Dark Ages: An Age of Light” is a documentary about the art during the dark ages. The set is 4 episodes that span over 2 DVDs and is total of 240 minutes. The documentary is hosted, written, and directed by Waldemar Januszczak, who has also been an art critic for the UK Sunday Times since 1992. The documentary tries to make light of the barbaric and unsettling times of the dark ages but showcasing the art that defined that period.
If you are a fan of art, “The Dark Ages: An Age of Light” is the perfect documentary for you. However, for me, I found it to be too slow paced and fairly boring. I admit the art was interesting to see, but the documentary lacked much else that interested me. This was a long 240 minutes that was painful for me to watch, but will surely be appreciated for art lovers. To make matters worse, they did not include too
I can look at the art, get the explanation, and still be bored with this documentary. I almost fell asleep several times watching “The Dark Ages: An Age of Light,” but really do not think there is any other way for them to spruce up this topic. It was not that bad a documentary, but the topic is so dry and aimed more towards a niche audience. If you like art, I recommend you do watch it. However, if you are not an art fanatic, like me, I suggest you skip it altogether. For those reasons, I am giving “The Dark Ages: An Age of Light” a “D.”
