Interesting Tidbits

Just like the other Pixar films, if you look closely, you can see cameos by other Pixar movie characters such as Buzz Lightyear as well as others. Can you find them all?

In 2003, Disney Pixar first released “Finding Nemo” in theaters and the movie was a box office hit. 9 years later, they decided to re-release the movie in both Blu-ray and 3-D Blu-ray formats for the first time. “Finding Nemo” is the story of an overprotective single clown fish Dad, Marlin (Albert Brooks), and his only son, Nemo (Alexander Gould), who has a smaller “special fin” and is not a great swimmer. On Nemo’s first day of school, he gets captured by a scuba diver and Marlin sets out to find him. During his adventure to find Nemo, Marlin meets several new friends along the way and becomes BFFs with Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a blue Tang Fish with a bad case of short-term memory loss. The two friends go anywhere and everywhere in the Australian waters to find Nemo.

I have been a huge fan of the movie ever since I saw it in theaters back in 2003 and thought the visuals were good on their own. I was not sure how well it would transfer to 3D or if I would notice anything different watching it again in HD. I have to be the first to admit, that I was totally wrong. This movie was made for 3D and everything looked even more amazing than when I first saw the movie. The3D felt natural and subtle and they did not try hard to force the 3D on you or make things feel gimmicky. I thought the movie was even better in 3D and it added a whole new depth to the visual experience. (No pun intended….sort of). It was a flawless conversion and the scenes felt even more alive with the breathtaking 3D visuals.

Just like the other Pixar movies, “Finding Nemo” was a well written story with lots of memorable characters and moments in the movie. The plot itself was unpredictable, but logical, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Amidst the “Awww!” moments, they threw in a funny line to mix things up and the dialogue was well thought out. They had a good balance between the comedy and emotional moments to please both adult and younger audiences. My favorite character was Surf the turtle because he was cute, likeable, and fun to watch.

The sound quality was amazing and the music was very fitting to each scene. In addition, they packed tons of extras and bonus footage to satisfy both the new and old fans of the movie. This is one movie I do not mind watching over and over with my niece. The HD and 3D versions of the movie were a thoughtful and necessary update to an already perfect classic movie. I highly recommend checking out “Finding Nemo” in 3D even if you have already seen it once in its original format. I am giving this movie a big two thumbs up and an “A+.”
