Interesting Tidbits

Nicole Scherzinger from popular pop group "The Pussycat Dolls" makes a cameo appearance in the movie. Can you guess which character she plays?

“Men in Black 3” is the third installment of the “Men in Black” series which was first released in theaters in 1997. Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) are part of a top secret government organization that monitors and polices alien activity on Earth. An alien criminal from K’s past, Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement), escapes from prison and he is hell bent on revenge. Agent K mysteriously disappears and ceases to exist as the world around Agent J drastically changes. Agent J goes back to 1969 to figure out what happened to K and attempts to catch Boris in the process. Agent J runs into a younger Agent K (Josh Brolin) and chaos ensues.

The things I enjoyed about this movie were Josh Brolin as a young Agent K, some of the 3D effects, and the extras. Josh Brolin did a superb job portraying a younger version of Agent K and he was my favorite character in the whole movie. Besides having similar facial features to Tommy Lee Jones, he perfected every nuance and quirk that made Agent K recognizable. As for the 3D, the scenic shots were very majestic and cool to look at, but it felt forced throughout the rest of the movie. Every 3D gimmick, from POV shots to object aimed at you, was used in this movie and it did not feel natural. Lastly, they did a good job of packing this set with extras, such as games and other music videos, as well as bonus material, such as featurettes and behind-the scenes footage.

The things about this movie I did not enjoy were the dialogue, the plot, and Will Smith. In addition to all of the stereotypical jokes and cursing, the dialogue was horrible in this movie, with the exception of the Agent K’s. Some lines, as well as some scenes, were unnecessary and could have been worded a lot better. As for the plot, they attempted to explain time travel and its effects, but fail miserably like other time traveling movies. However, I thought it was cool how they tied this movie to the previous two movies in the series. Lastly, Will Smith was my least favorite character of the movie because everything felt forced and his jokes were pretty cheesy. It just did not seem like his heart was into this movie like the previous installments, which I thought was disappointing.

If you enjoyed the other “Men in Black” movies, you might like “Men in Black 3” as well, but should know it has a different feel to it. This movie had some good points to it, but a majority of it was pretty bad. You could probably rent this movie and check it out when you are bored or have a chance, but don’t exactly put it at the top of your to-do list or ask Santa for it on Christmas. For those reasons, I am giving this movie a “C-.”
