In the first season of Lost Girl the shows Succubus female lead, Bo, was on a journey of discovery. She had no clue who she was or what she was. She had been running from her past, which included a few dead lovers, and running towards any answers she could find about her parents. Who were they? Did they have the same strange power that she possessed? Were they even alive?

In a case of fortunate and unfortunate luck, Bo takes up residence in a city that is secretly populated by Fae, a divided group of mythical creatures like herself. When Bo rescues a girl named Kenzi from a rufie dropping pervert, sucking all of his life force out of his body, she attracts the attention of two policemen, both Fae, as well as the local governing body of Fae overlords. From that point on answers come, but are intertwined with lies and half truths.

By the end of the season Bo gets a surprise visit from someone she least expected, some identity’s are revealed about the Fae she has let into her inner circle, and her on again off again lover, Dyson, makes a deal that would help Bo, but in doing so loses something precious to him.

Season 2 finds a lot of change for the series. The governing body of Light Fae, after an attack in season one, are shifting in their power structure. The Dark Fae have taken advantage of the situation and have begun running amok and causing trouble throughout the city, breaking the long standing peace treaty between both factions of Fae. Bo is still looking for answers, this time about her powers and how she can hone them better, as well as more clues about her parents. Dyson is missing, a new power player in the Fae world has his sights set on Bo, and Bo is warned in a vision that something really bad is coming and it plans on consuming her.

As is tradition with the show we see a lot more mythology spread throughout the series, each new theme bringing along a creature with it. Sandmen, Brownies, even some old friend of Dyson’s. Season two continues revealing the past lives of its characters and unfolding the core story arch at the shows center. It still has its snags of overdramatic moments and falling back on its sexual angle when it seems to be caught up, but overall season 2 leaves you looking forward to the next installment of the series.

PICTURE QUALITY:
Lost Girl is a fairly new show, shot in digital, so you’re getting a pretty remarkable picture. CGI is well integrated so that it doesn’t look completely phony, as has been the problem for CGI effects adjusting to a higher picture quality since Blu-Ray popped up. Black levels are deep, clarity is crystal, and colors pop. I especially like when Bo goes into her Succubus mode and her eyes light up blue, or the look of Kenzi’s eyes, which naturally look awesome all of the time. Overall LG gets a good looking picture that really adds depth to the strange and macabre world of the series. Maybe a bit cleaner then you’re used to with a darker show, but BD quality.
