Artist: Automatic Static Album: Number IV Members: Zack Diebels, Matt Franks, Kevin Genre: Rock Label: Authentik Artists Inc Tracks: 6 Type: Digital Release Date: March 20, 2012 Rating: ( )Grade: A- Usually I give an album quite a few spins before I make any kind of judgment on weather or not it’s any good. The latest E.P. release from the band Automatic Static makes it really easy for me. In a nutshell, this is the perfect album for those of you out there that love(d) Stone Temple Pilots or Velvet Revolver. Basically lead singer Zack Diebels does all he can to emulate the vocal style of Scott Weiland and passes with flying colors. If I hadn’t already known this wasn’t an STP or Velvet Revolver album I would have quickly assumed that it was. In the press release for the E.P. there’s some mention of Nirvana but honestly I didn’t hear it. For all intents and purposes this is simply a love note to the aforementioned bands. Diebels began working on music for Automatic Static back in 2005 in his Sacramento apartment and eventually struck out to perform live, drawing on the help of various local musicians. Eventually the band settled on a trio formation that features Diebels on guitar and vocals, Matt Franks on bass, and Kevin (sorry couldn’t track down the last name) on drums. Despite however you may feel about the way in which the band delivers an almost tribute sound, without a doubt they rock out their equipment to an enjoyable overload of fast paced sound and true rock and roll panache. So if you were ever or still are a fan of those Scott Weiland led outfits I’d highly suggest checking out Automatic Static. Enjoy. Pictures/Covers: |
