Title: Joe Rogan: Talking Monkeys In Space Genre: Comedy Starring: Joe Rogan Director: Anthony Giordano Studio: Comedy Central Runtime: 68 Minutes Release Date: March 30, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B+ Comedy Central presents Joe Rogan: Talking Monkey’s In Space, a stand up performance about making babies, pot, the stupidity of man, and more. The Guardian is quoted on the DVD case saying Rogan is “ Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone pumped marine” and that’s pretty accurate. Most of you are probably familiar with Rogan from his work as the host of the now defunct Fear Factor show or his commentary work for the UFC but you haven’t quite seen Rogan till you’ve seen him do stand up. Talking Monkey’s In Space takes a bit to get started I admit. Every comedian tests their audience to see what direction they should take and it felt like Rogan was taking the scenic route. A lot of unintelligent stringing of cuss words and insults and then a rant on pot before, finally, Rogan just tears into the world like a man on a mission. What you might enjoy about this particular stand up is that he’s that asshole friend that everyone had at school. Obnoxious, outspoken, but has a way of delivering every misconstrued idea or point with a heaping of humor. You might not always agree with what he’s saying but your waiting to hear what he’s going to say next. From his take on why animals shouldn’t be locked up in a zoo to religion to world politics Rogan simply smashes it all up and then spits it back with a mixture of logic and fuck all. In the beginning, honestly, I was stonewalling what I was seeing and hearing but by the end I was laughing my ass off at how truthful and insane Joe Rogan is as a stand up. Bonus features include: Talking Monkeys In Columbus: Not really sure what this is meant to be. Its like accidentally bumping into Rogan and his crew repeatedly and then just getting in on a half way over conversation. Entertaining but not exactly focused. Behind the Scenes: Get a closer look at Joe Rogan outside of his comic routine and the guy is still pretty funny and so is his crew. Little candid segments mixed with interviews and a peek at what went on before the show began and what happened afterwards. Both features clock in at about 16+ minutes. |
