Lets Not Look Back But Instead Look Forward to 2013

I wanted to do this blog last week but with the Amazing Spider-Man #700 coming out on December 26 I had to talk about it on that last blog of the year 2012. Well, this Friday (that’s today or depending on when you’re reading this was that other day that ended in y) I want to look forward to the year of 2013.
What can we expect for comic books?
What can we expect for movies based off comic books?
Well lets get to it shall we?
So what can we expect to be happening in 2013? For Marvel their big story line is going to be the Age of Ultron. Man I’m actually looking forward to this event because Ultron is just cool. This robot is the ultimate doom for the Marvel Universe. Yes, Ultron! Think about it for a minute. If you take any villain or hero, even Hulk, Wolverine, Molecule Man, Doom, Deadpool, or any of the other heavy hitters, they are still killable. Granted, they are extremely tough to kill but they can be killed and once they are that’s it (supposedly), no more of them which means no more they can do. That means if they have taken over the world they can be stopped. Now look at Ultron, a robot, actually the robot of robots. Built by Hank Pym, Ultron learns more as time goes by and what he’s learned is how to take down everyone to take control of the world. If by chance he is defeated (yeah right), it’s only the body, a shell really, that is defeated. When this happens, which it always does, all that Ultron does is transfer himself to another body. He has all the tools he needs to do this because he’s a robot and the only way to permentaly stop Ultron is to take out every single electronic device out of existence, that’s including the big things like satellites, cell phones, and even little things like a memory card because he would be able to transfer himself in them until he found a suitable body. The world would have to go back to the dark ages just to wipe him out. Which brings up the Age of Ultron where he supposedly will take over the world.

Also in 2013 look for anything wrote by Kelly Sue Deconnick. Currently those titles are Captain Marvel, Ghost, and Avengers Assemble, which all are excellent. Here soon she will be doing her own creator own title called Pretty Deadly, a western comic I belive, which I will be getting. Also if you want to get her autograph she is listed as one of the guests coming to Heroescon on June 7-9 2013. I can’t wait to get her to sign my copies of Captain Marvel, Ghost, and when it comes out Pretty Deadly.

Speaking of good writers, there’s Gail Simone doing her magic on the title Batgirl. This is the book I was introduced to her through this book and I’m hooked on her style. Batgirl was an interesting character before Gail Simone got her words on her but only so much so where I liked the character. However now that Gail Simone has been writing the character it has become one of the must read books for me.
For books to watch out for in 2013 there’s Pretty Deadly, as I stated above, done by Kelly Sue Deconnick. It’s going to be a western comic but I’m betting it will be good. There’s also the upcoming Superman title, as of yet unnamed, that will be wrote by Scott Synder and drawn by Jim Lee. These two are great at what they do, Synder made Batman a better badass than he already was and well Jim Lee already has proven himself.

Now this one some might say I’m excited about because it’s Star Wars, which is true but I’m also excited because it’s Star Wars. What I mean is the title is called Star Wars, it’s not going to be a story that takes place years after the movies or years before, it’s not going to be the Clone Wars, none of that. This title is going to take place between A New Hope and Empire Strikes back with the true Star Wars characters of Luke, Leia, Han, and Vader. Though as cool as this is I would have rather the series be set between Empire and Jedi where the stories are about Luke becoming a Jedi. Though I don’t read it, Invincible by Robert Kirkman (yeah the Walkind Dead creator who also created this title around the same time) is reaching near issue #100 (always a milestone for a comic). There’s supposed to be a death in this series, which is why I put it on here because once a title has reached the 100 issues having a death is actually a pretty big deal. And there’s also the Age of Ultron like I talked about above for Marvel and from what I’ve seen for DC Comics there’s something called Multiversity to be coming out this year.

Now what movies to looks out for, well of course all the Marvel movies. Alright, I can’t say for sure all of them right now but most of them. Iron Man 3, Wolverine, Thor 2, and Kick Ass 2. The trailer for Iron Man was just so cool, even though it kills me that it was filmed so close to me and not only did I not get hire on it but I never made it to Wilmington to see it film. Wolverine has a really cool poster with him holding the sword, and Thor is another Thor but it’s Kick Ass 2 that I’m really looking forward.
It’s been a long time in coming but I’m glad to say that Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will be coming out in 2013. But as much as I like this movie coming out I’m sad that it took so long because both Brittany Murphy and Michael Clarke Duncan died. It’s sad that this movie will be missing both of them.

Red 2, yeah Red 2 with Bruce Willis, Dame Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich are coming back as the retired hit squad. Another sequal is 300: Rise of an Empire. Though I’m not sure how this one will turn out but I’ll watch it simply to see Eva Green. Oblivion, a movie about the end of the world or the world that has ended, either way I like this kind of movie.
But the most looked forward to movie I think for me right now is Man of Steel. At first I was iffy about it when I heard they where going darker with it and that the suit was going to look different, and after Superman Returns I just didn’t have high hopes. But then I saw the trailer for it, the second trailer I should say, though the first one was cool, it’s the second one that sold me. This movie looks like it will put Superman movies back into the running with Spider-Man and the Avengers.
