Neopets launches Halloween-Themed Online Game

NICKELODEON’S NEOPETS® LAUNCHES SPOO-KEY EDITION OF NEW ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GLOBAL GAME, KEY QUEST™

Special Halloween-Inspired Line of Plush Toys Now Available At Retail

LOS ANGELES–Oct. 29, 2008–Nickelodeon’s Neopets (http://www.neopets.com), the world’s leading youth community and online virtual world, treats kids this Halloween to a spooky edition of its new, free multiplayer online game, Key Quest (http://www.neopets.com/keyquest), and a limited-edition line of Neopets Halloween-inspired collectible plush. From now until Nov. 3, players can earn virtual Halloween-themed prizes when playing Key Quest. Additionally, three Halloween plush--Kacheek, JubJub and Acara—available at retailers nationwide, have codes that unlock exclusive virtual bonus prizes.

Neopets Key Quest brings the traditional board game online for kids to play for free with their friends anytime. Rich with storylines, the game is available in 11 languages, enabling players to interact with one another across the globe. Key Quest incorporates the collectible plush–manufactured by JAKKS Pacific–into game play, and each toy features a redeemable hang tag code that unlocks bonus prizes and virtual game pieces.

To play Key Quest, players select a virtual game piece from their “Collectors Case” and try to collect keys that unlock the Key Quest door to receive special prizes.  Gamers can play each other in multiplayer mini-games to earn more keys and receive power ups that allow them to swap keys from other players, or skip a player’s turn.  At the end of the game, players can redeem the keys won during the game for Neopets virtual prizes or can show-off their Key Quest virtual game pieces in the Key Quest “Collectors’ Case”.  Social features including live player-versus-player functionality; real time, safe chat; and collectable real and virtual items, will increase player interaction during Key Quest.

Neopets has a variety of Halloween-themed content on the site and for sale at the NC Mall in addition to spooky Key Quest, including ghoulish items to customize your Neopet and the new game, Mutant Graveyard of Doom II.  New Key Quest game boards with different themes, new mini-games, special tokens and power ups will be introduced throughout the next year.  Neopets will also hold a Neocash Card Sweepstakes in November.

In addition to Neopets’ Key Quest and the plush, Neopets has expanded to several product categories that integrate play components into the website, including: toys; electronics; apparel; books; Trading Card Fun Paks; and play sets.  Neopets® Puzzle Adventure for the PC and Nintendo DS and Wii will also hit shelves this holiday season and electronic handheld games will launch in 2009.
