Star Trek's Anton Yelchin, 27, dies in tragic car accident

Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin has tragically died in a car accident early Sunday morning. He was 27 years old.

The news was first reported by TMZ and latered confirmed by the Associated Press. According to police, Yelchin's friends went to go by his house and check in on him after he missed a scheduled rehearsal around 1am this morning. When they arrived they found him pinned between his still-running car and a brick mailbox attached to a security gate. The driveway itself is on a steep incline and the car was found in neutral. No foul play is suspected.

Yelchin's most notable role was that of Pavel Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, a role he is set to be seen in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond. Other memorable roles of his include his breakout performance in Alpha Dog, the titular role in Charlie Bartlett, and most recently opposite Patrick Stewart in the thrilling Green Room.
