I was apprehensive after seeing the previews for Bride Wars. I’m not a fan of senseless sappiness and I really thought Kate Hudson was going to follow in her mother’s footsteps with campy mindless drivel. And I thought the story was going to be flat and lifeless and completely unbelievable.

I was proven wrong.

Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) have been best friends since childhood. Both dream of the perfect wedding – June at the Plaza in New York. When their perspective bows finally pop the questions the women head off to the most prestigious wedding planner in Manhattan (Candice Bergen). After a scheduling flub, the bestest friends learn they have been scheduled on the same day at the same time. Neither’s willing to budge from their dream so a bitter war ensues and the sabotage begins. It’s very clear that your best friend can be your absolute worst enemy. Never piss off the woman that knows every one of your deepest dark secrets!

This was a well written feminine story of friendship and girlish dreams come true. I would even venture to say it was quite classy. It absolutely had its funny moments but not once did it feel campy or dumb. Kate and Anne do  fabulous jobs portraying a hard headed determined lawyer that always gets her way and a sweet lovable school teacher that always want to make everyone happy.

I thought the movie was light hearted, fun and an absolute great creative way of presenting  timless friendships. It’s not a Jane Austen so don’t expect the last great story of love and camaraderie. But it still had a sweet real story behind it.

Warning to all the guys – this is a VERY estrogen heavy one.  So girls think about making this a girl’s night out and have fun with it. Leave the guys at home with their football.

I give this one a B for girly fun.
