Think Like A Man Too

The beautiful cast of Think Like A Man is back and headed to Vegas to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of Candace (Regina Hall) and Michael (Terrence J). As per the first film, couples split into teams of men and women, both determined to outdo the other with their respective bachelor/bachelorette parties. Referencing both immensely popular films The Hangover and Bridesmaids; Think Like A Man Too does not skip on the drinking, gambling, debts, stripping, and other misadventures that could possibly ruin a relationship and a wedding day.

Star and narrator, Cedric (Kevin Hart) mistakenly believes he is chosen as Michael’s best man and is so honored and touched he is determined to throw Michael a huge Vegas style blow-out bachelor party. Newly divorced, Cedric’s focus is on women, partying, and bringing women to the after party. Hart is as effortlessly animated as ever. A joke is constantly on his lips or he’s pulling a laugh with his incredible expressions and movements. There’s an unpredictability and spontaneity to his performance that pulls the camera in, making him a joy to watch. Gary Owen (as Bennett) is a close second mastering fantastic delivery of awkward lines said with the utmost conviction.

Each couple encounters their own problems as the weekend in Vegas progresses. Maya (Meagan Good) and Zeke (Romany Malco) arrive in Vegas a couple in love until his “Zeke The Freak” past throws them into an uncertain future. Dominic (Michael Ealy) and Lauren (Taraji P. Henson) have rekindled their romance into a passionate fire, but when they’re each presented with life changing decisions their priorities are challenged. Kristen (Gabrielle Union) has full on baby fever, but Jeremy (Jerry Ferrara) is not so sure if he’s ready to be a father. Tish (Wendi McLendon-Covey) and Bennett are married with children and little lost in themselves. Stuck in a bit of stiff and boring pattern they could use a little Vegas magic.

However, my favorite couple and storyline belongs to Uncle Eddie (Dennis Haysbert) & Ms. Loretta (Jennifer Lewis). Both mature and vibrant, Eddie’s seduction of Loretta is adorable, smoldering, and amusing. Watching these two honey voiced pros trade lines is such a treat, I couldn’t help wishing they would have their own spin-off short.

While I am not a fan of Steve Harvey nor the concept of the book these films are based on, I do think the films do a great job at being something different than expected. None of the storylines are original and the plot is predictable, but it is still far more enjoyable than any Tyler Perry flick (the comparison is almost inevitable). The cast of TLAMT are all very talented with enough diversity in their comedic deliveries that this predictable offering carries just enough flavor to leave a good taste in your mouth. Seeing this group perform together is delightful.
