I’m not really sure where to place the album The Window Blades by Reigns into other than a rock/mellow rock/alternative band. The music being played on this CD, and yes it’s music, not songs, not tracks, but music, takes on a mellow beat that has a new hypnotic sound to it that had me not realizing that I had been listening to the album for over a half hour while a song was still playing. This alone is amazing considering that I was sitting down listening to the CD and doing nothing else. The songs have this way that before I knew it I had went into this sort of trance of just blank mindset where all I was doing was taking in the sound of the music.

It’s rare when a song can make me go into a trance when all I’m trying to do is listen to the song. It’s one of those moments that I know that I was listening to the song but by the end of it I think what happened to the middle of the song and how did it get to the end so quickly? What does this is how Reigns has made their music with such a mellow beat and tempo that it’s easy to get lost in the sound being played. When there are vocals, which didn’t seem like there was much of them, they have more of a impact on the song than they would have if it had been done through the whole song. I liked that the vocals are used lightly on this CD. It’s because of this sparing use of the vocals, which are just as hypnotic as the instruments, which the songs take on a life of their own.

There’s really no other way to describe these songs other than they are a trance inducing, mellow beat sound that has more going on in just one than what some bands have in all their albums combined. What kind of woke me out of my trance the first time listening was the last song, ‘The Mounds’, where after about 15 minutes I thought, did my player skip to the next group without me realizing it? Looking at the player I saw that no it was still playing the Reigns, only with this last track the time length of it clocks in at 19:07 minutes long. Throw that in with the other 10 tracks and you get a CD of some mellow rhythmic sounds that last 59:54 minutes long. Oh yea, just a mere 6 seconds under a full hour on one CD and it’s all got a sound that just makes you want to listen to the whole thing even though you will be sitting there for an hour.
