Stellar Corpses was formed in Santa Cruz, CA and their new album, “Dead Stars Drive-in” is set to debut on January 24, 2012. They claim they all met in a drunk tank and I am not one to doubt them. They are a good looking band that is slightly rough around the edges. Stellar Corpses is a very talented group of guys and they have a distinctive sound that will set them apart from other bands in their genre.

“Dead Stars Drive-in” is a very complete album and Stellar Corpses is a very complete band. I would describe their sound as a punk music with a swing twist. Also, going along with the band’s name, there are a lot of horror movie themes throughout album from vampires to zombies to blood. The album is full of mosh pitting and head banging goodness. Along with the great songs, the album had awesome intros, great solos, crazy instrumentals, memorable lyrics, and the vocals were one of a kind. My favorite songs on the whole album were “Blood Red” because it was a sweet song that made me tap my feet and “Twisted Fantasy” because it was an amazing song with a great change up in the middle of the song. This was a great album that showcased their talent and showed their versatility.

There were only a few issues I found with the album. The band did have great lyrics, but they had an odd habit of repeating the song title numerous times in some of the songs. If they remedied this issue, they would have a higher rating. Also, I was a not big fan when they would yell on the songs. This band has great vocal range  and a lot of talent and I would like to understand what they are saying in the song. Lastly, I think they should have left out “War of the Worlds” because it didn’t fit in with the other songs and social conscience songs felt a bit awkward to listen to from this fun band. Other than those issues, I would recommend this album to others and am giving it a “B+.”
