They Came From The Shadows plays like a love letter to punk plain and simple which comes as no surprise since Teenage Bottlerocket are known for being influenced by the likes of The Ramones, The Groovie Ghoulies, and other notable punk acts of yesteryear. High energy and explosive pop punk with a bit of anger.

Its been hard for punk these past few decades. Its not what it used to be and with every emo kid picking up a guitar and proclaiming their love for all things John Waters there just hasn’t been much anger or slight to go around. Teenage Bottlerocket has been somewhat of a breath of fresh air for me. Their sound is reminiscent of not so old school punk like Offspring and The Cooties but at the core of their sound they hit on The Misfits, The Ramones, the things that once made punk not so much a laughing stock as it was something to be respected and in a sense, feared.

The album opens up with the catchy Skate Or Die which brings the whole collection in with a bit of humor and, maybe its just me, but reminds one of the arcade game if not in title only. The second track is your first glimpse at influence coming off like some long lost Ramones CD with maybe a bit more bite. Speaking of bite, their next track, Bigger Then Kiss seems to be a challenge to all of Detroit. Watch out boys those are some pretty big words even if your emulating The Misfits. All together though the album is tight, fast, and best of all not one throw away track. Stand out tracks; Forbidden Planet, title track They Came From the Shadows, and of course Bigger Then Kiss. New school punks should dig it and old school punks will find it a good combination when they just want to throw something on. Enjoy.
