Summit has hinted at making a film out of the Twilight spin-off novella The Short Life of Bree Tanner. Jodelle Ferland plays Bree Tanner in Eclipse. Will Twilight fans look to have her replaced as Tanner in the series once they see her performance here? Time will tell.
In the usual fare of little possessed child horror films Renee Zellweger (Miss Potter), Ian McShane (Deadwood), and Bradley Cooper (The A Team) face off against Jodelle Ferland (Twilight Saga: Eclipse), a child discovered to have been the victim of abusive parents. When she is removed Zellweger, a bleeding heart social worker, takes her into her home only to discover nothing but grief and death follow this little girl. Its something new trying to put the spin on something old without effect.
QUALITY:
The film suffers from a fluctuation of quality starting off with a hefty dose of video noise filtering through the first 15 minutes or so of the film and slowly becoming less present. Some scenes result in picture perfect flawlessness, mostly night interior scenes, but by day in highly lit places the picture suffers. The visual effects here are awful so the boost of HD only makes them look worse. Audio is average. You may have to bump it up a notch to catch some sections of film dialogue but when it comes to door pounding, lightening crashing, and gun fire, well, you may need to keep that remote handy.
BONUS FEATURES: ~File Under “Evil”: Inside Case 39: An inside look at how the film came about. Like the film you will have to suspend belief in order to believe that the actors are really proud of this stinker. ~Turning Up the Heat on the Chill Factor: A decent, albeit short presentation on the make up of the film. ~Inside The Hornet’s Nest: Another relatively short feature, this time on the visual effects of the hornet scene aka how to use bad CGI. ~Playing With Fire: Featurette on the pyrotechnics of the film such as controlled burns and stunts with fire. ~Deleted Scenes: There are about half an hour of them but once you’ve seen the film there isn’t much more to see. Some valid deleted scenes would be the alternate death of Detective Mike Barron and the alternate ending.
