Title: Hulk Vs. Edition: 2 Disc Special Editon Genre: Action/Adventure, Animation Starring: Fred Tatasciore, Steve Blum, Bryce Johnson, Matthew Wolf, Nolan North Director: Frank Paur Studio: Marvel Runtime: 78 Minutes Release Date: January 27, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 2 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A Marvel has had some pretty good animated films come out over the last few years; 2 Iron Man films, a few Avengers oriented films, but Hulk Vs. is the beginning of something brand new and truly great that fans will love. PG-13 says it all. Hulk Vs. is a two disc affair that begins with Hulk Vs. Wolverine. Not only does it have some of your favorite characters involved including Deadpool and Sabertooth, well really the whole Weapon X crew, but it also stars some fantastic writing. While the previous Marvel animated films have come close to offering adult fans what they want out of some of their favorite characters Hulk Vs. Wolverine really comes at you no holds barred. In short, this is not a film your going to want your little ones watching. Slight language and massive violence ensue but thankfully its not the feature just a tool for telling a really awesome story. Now, mind you, ever since Wolverines emergence in the X-Men films every filmed recognition of his character is about his origins, including the upcoming live action film, Hulk Vs Wolverine is no exception. You’d think that we’d all be tired of hearing the same old plotline told with in different stories, but with inclusion of the Weapon X crew, namely Deadpool who steals the show, it somehow seems fresh and you don’t even think about the fact that you’ve been hammered to death with Wolverine’s back story. The Next feature, Hulk Vs. Thor, takes you into the realm of Asgard where Odin is partaking in his ritual sleep, a time when the forces of darkness are free to wreak havoc and attempt to overthrow Odin’s Kingdom. History has proven time and time again that evil does not stand a chance against the warriors of Odin and like always they fail, but Loki has other plans for this campaign and they involve Bruce Banner and The Hulk. While I haven’t been a huge follower of the Thor series the film is a good stand alone. Maybe not as great as the Hulk Vs Wolverine film but just as enjoyable. Bonus features for both discs include The Making of which pretty much has Fred Tatasciore who does the voice of Hulk as the star of both with him in the booth performing voice duties as well as some comedy relief for the camera, a really funny guy. Of course the other runaway star of the Making of Feature is Nolan North who voices Deadpool. You get a look at the fan reaction plus some interesting Q&A about the future of Marvels animated film department as far as projects coming up and rumored in Fan Frenzy: Hulk Vs. Wolverine at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con. Both also feature looks at more individual animated films coming up; Wolverine and the X-Men and Thor: Tales of Asgard. The animated Thor feature looks terrific. All in all its going to be hard for Marvel to top these films as far as story, action, and animation go. If you’re a fan go out and buy it now and if your not you will be after watching. Enjoy.
