"Maneater" isn't just a song title shared by the likes of Nelly Furtado and Hall and Oates. No, now it's a bad horror flick starring ex-Superman, Dean Cain as ex-FBI profiler turned small town sherrif.

The town is plagued by a series of killings (is it a bear or is it something else) that Sherrif Bailey must stop before he loses complete control over the town and its people. Couple that with Bailey's home issues (guilt over his wife's death and overbearing parenting style to his teenage daughter) and local Native American legends of shapeshifters; it's no wonder the Sherrif is a basketcase.

Dean Cain does not do wonders for this film. In fact, it's pretty much your run-of-the-mill SyFy horror fodder that you'd see any Saturday night. So, in a word, boring. Any attempt at "horror" just comes off as gratuitous gore and shlocky. The teenage promiscuity is just an excuse nudity and lends nothing to the plot. Honestly, did I expect it to?

"Maneater" is more cliche than anything and the terrible acting just drives that point home. I suppose the actors can't be held acccountable too much for the direction or script; they were just following orders. Pity.

I'm pretty sure I saw this exact subject matter on an episode of "The X-Files" which was, of course, much better than this. "Maneater" isn't the worst movie ever made, just pretty bad.
