Viola (Amanda Bynes) is on the girl’s soccer team at her school; but when she comes in for practice she discovers that funding has been cut and there is no longer a team. The guys coach will not let her try out for the boys team so she does what anyone else in her situation would do; dress up like a guy, pretend she is her brother Sebastian, and try out for his school’s guys soccer team. But while she is there Viola is not prepared to fall for her room mate Duke who thinks she is a guy. But things get even more complicated when Olivia (Duke’s love interest) falls in love with Viola when she is dressed up as Sebastian.
Ok so it is not a new story, it is not the greatest acting, and it is not the strongest script; but some how there is still a little bit of charm left that could capture the tweens. As one problem after another arises you may even find yourself curious to see how they will get out of it, even if you don’t want to admit it. In the end you will have to just go with it and not pay too much attention to how people are forgiven as quickly as they are and fall in love as fast as they do. So now you may be asking what do you get if you already know you like the movie. The bonus features include commentary by the director and Amanda Bynes, deleted scenes, gag reel, cast photos, pop-up trivia, Dave Lichens video for “Let Go”, and a making of feature. It’s been done before and will be done again; but this one could have turned out much worse than it did so I unfortunately have to admit I kind of enjoyed it.
