I can honestly say that I had only seen bits and pieces of Sixteen Candles over my 36 years on this planet. It never really interested me but I knew all of the sly inside jokes that made the Hughes film so popular. So, at this point in time I can count myself one of the above the rock human beings who have experienced this hilariously slick teen romp and I have to say, I liked it. So how did it look on Blu-Ray?

PICTURE QUALITY:
Right as soon as I realized that Sixteen Candles did not even come with a start up menu I was worried. Then the opening scene of a paper boy driving down the street managed to look decent enough. Unfortunately it all goes downhill from there.

The Universal transfer for Sixteen Candles is a patchwork of issues from abnormal skin color, aliasing, grain, color being zapped, soft detail, and an overall underwhelming picture as a whole. The best I can say about the BD transfer of Sixteen Candles is that it probably beats the DVD transfer, for the most part. There really should be a rule that if you aren’t going to put out the best quality picture you can for any one title, just don’t do it. Universal keeps up with its attempt to mostly do just the opposite.

Audio is great. You get some great home theater experiences such as the school dance and house party, though the ambient control would have been nice. Still, you get crisp dialogue, dated music that sounds completely restored and, again, it probably trumps its DVD predecessor.

BONUS FEATURES:
Terrible. The only real bonus feature that you get that has to do anything with the actual film is a 10 part documentary that includes interviews with the cast and crew and, for some reason, Diablo Cody. Other then that you get a Digital Copy, DVD Copy, and two 100 Years Of Universal shorts.
