WAR OF THE DEAD:
During the start of WWII experiments where done by the Nazis that was so horrific that when the project begun in 1939 it was quickly shut down. Two years pass while the war wages on with the experiment never being talked about. When Finnish solider Captain Martin Stone (played by Andrew Tiernan) takes an American military unit on a secret mission to destroy a Nazi underground bunker they walk into a war they weren’t prepared for. Their mission becomes a nightmare when the men they had just killed get back up becoming the living dead. With only one option left, they must go deep into the Russian forest to escape the hordes of flesh eating dead.

THE DEAD GO TO WAR:
It doesn’t surprise me that War of the Dead has been made because there have been other zombie movies set during WWII. It’s becoming a semi-popular plot now to use, one that takes the already disliked Nazis with adding in zombies/undead and you get a movie have a lot of people you don’t mind seeing getting killed. War of the Dead is no different really, the plot is set in the past during the war, some experiments were done that turn people to zombies, and now the soldiers have to deal with them. Being that I already like zombie movies, even the bad ones, I figured that War of the Dead couldn't be that bad where I wouldn't like it. Well, as far as a zombie movies goes, it was alright, but looking at it as a movie where I'm being shown and told a story it falls a little bit short.

What's good about this movie are what make it a zombie movie, the zombies or undead. Sure they're not scary, they don't look like the typical zombie, and they are really fast but they are still fun to watch. These guys or things where coming out everywhere, from dark areas in the forest, from behind doors, and even out of trees (not sure how a zombie got in the tree but some did). There's also a lot of killing because there are so many of them. This movie has a lot of action it with lots of zombie being killed. War of the Dead is a quick paced movie having it start right up with the explanation of how the undead started to all of a sudden there just being so many that the soldiers where overwhelmed. It was a decent action movie, nothing that great, but good enough to enjoy.

There are a few things that I didn't like about War of the Dead though. Main one being is how the zombies became zombies. It shows how the first one became a zombie with the testing being done but after the 2 years where nothing happens and they have a soldier shake that box there where zombies. I get the idea of them being the undead but I just don't get how they become the undead, even when they are killed. It's one minute they are alive and fighting the other undead then the next they are the undead. And though this movie is fast paced with the action it also moves a little too fast because one minute the movie is just starting then the next I'm in the middle of watching a war against the undead and I don't know how I got there. Also the CGI wasn't that great when it came to the explosions. At the end when the big boom happens, it looks like someone had set off a smoke bomb, recorded it, and the overlaid it on a wide angel shot of a forest. I wasn't too impressed with the acting either but it's just good enough to make it a movie where I didn't want to turn off. Though, it was still an ok movie about zombies or the undead, however you want to call them, and there are some decent attack/fight scenes, but overall, War of the Dead is just another low budget zombie flick.

ALL THAT FIGHTING ON BLU RAY:
Not the most impressive of Blu Ray movies that I've seen but that could be because of all the dark scenes in this movie. War of the Dead is mostly shot at night, or at least has dark scenes representing night, and because of that there is a lot of blacks and shades in the picture. There's some grain to be seen, which is not surprising considering how much black is in this movie but it wasn't too extreme. Colors where semi bright when there are colors but it is a dark movie with more shades of gray then there are shades of any other color. Audio levels where the best feature on this Blu Ray. Though there is a lack of any special features on this disc that would have helped me enjoy watching the movie more than I had. Instead all that's added to this for bonus features is the trailer and for me that is not impressive at all.
