Factoid:

The first live action film based on a Hanna-Barbera cartoon property to be made without the assistance of William Hanna or Joseph Barbera, who passed away in 2001 and 2006 respectively. ~IMDB

Everyone’s favorite pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear brings his meal-mooching ways to movies in this live-action/CG-animated adventure starring Dan Aykroyd as the voice of Jellystone Park’s famed troublemaker Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake as the voice of Yogi’s faithful pal Boo Boo. Jellystone has been losing business, so conniving Mayor Brown has decided to shut it down and sell the land. Faced with the loss of his home, Yogi must prove he really is “smarter than the average bear” as he and Boo Boo join forces with Ranger Smith to find a way to save the park from closing forever. Anna Faris, Tom Cavanagh, TJ Miller and Andrew Daly co-star in this wonderful new incarnation of Hanna-Barbera’s classic cartoon.

QUALITY:
Let’s face it, Yogi Bear is going to be a release that is going to cater mostly to children. Fans of the original show have shown a high distain to this CGI filled mess, that’s not based off of box office success because Yogi has proven profitable, but from word of mouth. In any case kids will love the highly vibrant colorful world of Jellystone Park and its scheming inhabitants spending their days trying to steal pic-a-nic baskets and its plethora of bonus features. Definition is fantastically brilliant, though it tends to give the films CGI produced characters a higher contrast on their appearance versus their environment making them appear all the more fake. Even some scenes with human characters in contrast with their background it looks fake. In any case clarity and definition are brilliant and color is magnificently vibrant though some scenes prove to be a bit soft and drab at times. Like I said though, this film is designed to merely impress the younger crowd who will more then likely not give two figs weather or not Yogi and Boo Boo are really in Jellystone or have been planted there by a computer.

Audio helps where visuals seem lack offering a great DTS-HD MA 5.1 track that gives immersion to the film. Just imagine the cartoon; all those hitting sounds, feet running, environmental sounds. The film manages to make theatrical all the things we knew as kids into something pretty grand. Overall its pretty decent package for a film that’s not so great.

BONUS FEATURES (HD):
~Spending A Day At Jellystone Park: This is like a bonus feature menu in of itself. Kids can click on five locations to check out a large amount of interactive and viewable bonus features located within.
~Yogi Bear Mash-up: Proof that Yogi Bear did once exist in cartoon form.
~You Smarter Then The Average Bear: Interactive Memory Game which can be overplayed in mere minutes.
~Looney Tunes - Rabid Rider: A brand new Road Runner short in HD. Looks fantastic and is hilarious. Makes me wonder why Yogi Bear wasn’t filmed this way. Would have been great but we’ve got nothing but time to see the old Yogi Bear doesn’t get a renewed type TV show in the future.
