Created by Netherlands-based developer Two Tribes B.V., the puzzle platform game Toki Tori was originally released way back in 2001 for the Game Boy Color. Since then, the title has been through many graphical upgrades and appeared on a huge number of different formats, and next week, over ten years after the game’s initial release, PlayStation Network users can finally give it a play it too!

The PSN version of Toki Tori is essentially a straight port of the PC version of the game, which was released on Steam at the beginning of last year. However, Two Tribes have also included a number of relatively minor, but welcome additions, including 3D and PlayStation Move support, making this version, in our opinion, the definitive version of the game.

You play as the titular bird Toki Tori, and are tasked with rescuing missing eggs. Each level ends once you’ve found them all; you are free to collect them in any order, but some levels require you to find certain eggs before others, or you may find yourself stuck, as some sections of a level will become inaccessible once you have passed a specific point.

Thankfully, if you ever do get yourself into a bit of a pickle (and you will), you can rewind your progress, erasing your mistake and allowing you to retry without having to completely restart the level. You can use this rewind feature as much as you want, whenever you want, which is an absolute godsend on the game’s pesky later levels.

So where does the game’s challenge actually come from? Well, Toki Tori isn’t exactly the most active of birds; he can walk left and right, climb up and down ladders, and… that’s pretty much it. He can’t jump, and he certainly can’t fly, so he has to use various items in order to traverse each level. Knowing which item to use in any given situation is the key to completing levels.
