Show: Awesome Adventures: Rescue Friends Season/Volume: Volume One Genre: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Family, Kids Studio: Lyons / Hit Ent. Runtime: 66 minutes Release Date: March 13, 2012 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B+ Lionsgate and Hit Entertainment offer up Awesome Adventures Volume One starring three of your favorite television characters including Bob The Builder, Thomas & Friends, and Fireman Sam. 6 action packed adventures make up this collection that kids will enjoy. I always find it fascinating that I’ve been covering kids shows from Hit and Lionsgate but very rarely come across a collection that contains repeat episodes. Awesome Adventures Volume One keeps that tradition with 2 episode sets between the three titular characters, but I wouldn’t say all of the episodes included on the discs could be considered “Adventure”. First up to bat is Thomas & Friends with episodes Spencer The Grand and Toby’s New Whistle. In Spencer The Grand Sodor is blanketed with a heavy cover of fog and all of the trains, save one or two, take it upon themselves to go out into the fog. Spencer feels like he’s a grand engine that doesn’t need to know where he’s going because he feels it has all become instinctual to him and goes out anyway only to find that he keeps arriving at the wrong destinations. In the end he must help another train find their way back home in the fog. In Toby’s New Whistle it’s more of an adventure of discovery when Toby’s bell becomes rusted and he has to be fitted with a steam whistle. It’s one of the best kinds and loud. Can Toby become comfortable with his new whistle and find some way to make it work when he needs it the most? Fireman Sam is up next and of course there is no doubt that when you say adventure Fireman Sam fits in easily. In the first episode titled Off Duty Sam, Sam takes the day off to get some work done around his home but around every corner he runs into some kind mishap that has him rushing in to save the day. Next we have Fireman James, a story about a little boy named James who suddenly gets transmissions from the firehouse on his walkie talkie and takes it upon himself to save the day like a real fireman. James does well but eventually gets in a little deeper then he would like. Can Fireman Sam save the day? Lastly Bob the Builder is on board with episode Scratch Goes Solo and Whizzy Dizzy. Again, if you’ve ever seen an episode of Bob The Builder you can pretty much guess that not a whole lot of adventure occurs, it’s just Bob and his crew of talking machinery building stuff. In the first episode Scratch takes his first solo job digging holes. He brings along a bell they’ve found and is told to ring it if he gets lonely. He wants to be a big digger so he refuses to ring it but could that spell trouble for Scratch? Finally Whizzy Dizzy is all about Dizzy feeling out place and without a real skill amongst the other crew. Can she find a skill that can help her fit in better? Adventure is an iffy word to describe this release but the episodes are as usual fun and full of good life lessons kids can associate with their own lives. It’s also a lengthy collection well worth the purchase price for parents whose kids love the shows contained within. Enjoy. |
