Show: The Fresh Beat Band Season/Volume: The Wizard Of Song Genre: Comedy, Family, Kids, Other Starring: Thomas Hobson, Jon Beavers Studio: Nickelodeon Runtime: 88 Minutes Release Date: August 14, 2012 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: A Did You Know? Shayne Rose left the show on good terms to get married and start a family of her own. My experiences with the Fresh Beat Band include a one episode review in which I employed my young nieces and nephews, who ended up not enjoying it that much. Like my nephews and nieces I ended up not enjoying the episode as well. As many responses to my review point out, maybe this is a show for a much younger audience which includes parents who are more in tune with said younger children. My experience with The Fresh Beat Band was much different this time around. I don’t quite recall just how bad the acting was in that first debut episode I reviewed but somehow the acting had gone from seemingly bad to great, possibly even genius. Surprisingly fan favorite Jon Beavers, who I couldn’t stand the most in that last review, played up a fantastic Jimmy Stewart in his portrayal as Scarecrow in the groups production of The Wizard of Oz (The Wizard Of Song). It was this performance that broke my view of him as an overacting kids player. There was also a change up in the groups line up. Shayna Rose, as Marina, is replaced by Tara Perry in the role. Obviously after one viewing it made little difference to me but fans of the show may take notice. The disc comes with the feature The Wizard of Song as well as two bonus episodes. For me the really prize was The Wizard of Song which features Scrubs alum Sarah Chalke and pop rocker Jason Mraz, who ends up playing one of his hit songs within the mix of the episode. The episode features all original song and dance numbers as well as changes in the story that make for a fun filled run through a familiar classic. Was it a bit goofy? Sure, but all together an enjoyable episode. The other two episodes include Ghost Band, in which the FBD are invited to play a small western town out in the middle of nowhere that seems to be haunted and Chimps In Charge in which the FBD baby sit some chimps and try to build them a playground. Both episodes were surprisingly great and should appease the groups little fans to their adult fans. All together not bad. Pictures: |
