By 1991 Baseball had been a long dead sport to me, sort of. I still had my favorites but I hardly ever watched. My time was consumed with girls, music, and trouble. I tried to get back into it a few times, even got into a conversation with an Uncle who loved the game and considered this particular game as shaping up to be one of the greatest he’d ever seen. There was a beer in it for me if we could sit around and watch it together. In any case I passed, grabbed my skateboard and headed off to a friends house to murder a new song we’d written together. Who would have thought I had passed up on one of the greatest series in baseball ever. Well, according to ESPN.

If your like me and missed out on this series, and want to see it in all its glory from second one down to the truly final inning, then you’ll be happy to know that A&E and the MLB have brought this series to DVD. The Minnesota Twins 1991 World Series Collector's Edition DVD set contains every game in the series taken from its original broadcast, it’s up to you to decide weather or not that’s a good thing, and even includes a bonus features commentary that allows you to listen to the Twins Radio Network Announcers as they call the game play by play. That in itself is very cool. Unfortunately there are no subtitles provided.

Like I said, picture quality is archive so do not expect to find a great quality in picture here. There are your usual hiccups with archive footage but nothing that should surprise you if you’re a fan of past sports events that have been dusted off and put on DVD. Audio is just about the same. Your usual hiccups but all together a nice little throwback that should get you as close to how the original series was seen and heard when it first aired. So if you haven’t seen “The Greatest World Series Ever”, your opportunity has arrived. Enjoy.
