Interesting Tidbits

Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) is also the voice behind Captain Marvel on the cartoon show "Super Hero Squad."

Modern Family is one of the best comedies on television right now. They played it safe on their first season to build a steady fan base, but in the second season, they let everything go wild and their showed their true potential. Their second season garnered a lot of praise, numerous nominations and lots of awards.

The show is a traditional family sitcom about a not-so-traditional family. It follows Jay (Ed O’ Neill) and his second wife, Gloria (Sofia Vegara), who is half his age and has a son of her own. Jay also has two kids, Claire (Julie Bowen) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), but they are all grown up and have families of their own. Claire is a stay at home, married to a quirky real estate agent named Phil (Ty Burrell), and they have 3 kids (2 daughters and a son) that never seem to get along. Lastly, there is Mitch who is gay, a lawyer, married to a sensitive stay at home dad named Cam (Eric Stonestreet), and they both have an adopted Vietnamese daughter named Lily. I know it seems confusing, but that is the reality of families these days and adds so much variety and craziness to the show making it more realistic.

This is one of my favorite shows and I always catch it when it is on. The jokes and the writing is unlike any other show. Each episode is unique and the jokes are mostly family friendly, with a few adult-only punch lines, but they are never distasteful or boring. The characters are relatable and loveable making the audience really care for them as a good show should always do. My favorite characters are Gloria, Claire, and Mitch because I see a lot of myself in these characters and can relate to a lot of things they have to go through in their families. My favorite episode was “Halloween” because it is one of my favorite holidays and I could relate to Claire’s hardships with getting her family together and making everything perfect. This show is one big comedic circus where there is never a dull moment.

This Blu-ray was awesome! All 24 episodes of season 2 were in full HD and looked so sharp on my TV. The sound was perfect and made me feel like I was in the Dunphy house sitting on their couch. Lastly, this blu-ray had extras galore to please any Modern Family fan. I love the show and the Blu-ray and have no complaints at all about anything having to do with either. I highly recommend both to everyone and am giving both an “A+.”
