Show: Parks and Recreation Season/Volume: 4 Genre: Comedy Starring: Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe Studio: Universal Studios Runtime: 470 mins Release Date: September 4, 2012 Format: DVD Discs: 4 Rating: ( )Grade: A Parks and Recreation is the perfect example of letting a show find its footing. I remember watching the six episodes of the first season and wondering I'd be able to stick with it into season two. It wasn't terrible, but there was, initially, nothing about the show to really set it off. But something happened during season two and Parks and Rec became one of the best comedies on NBC (along with Community, 30 Rock & The Office). The cast is uniformly awesome and by season four, they've become a well-oiled machine of hilarity. The jokes are sharper, the storylines are funnier and the lines are hilarious and memorable. In particular, this season follows Leslie Knope's path to election to the city council. We also see the end of Entertainment 720, the hysterical brainchild of Tom Haverford and Jean Ralphio. April and Andy are up to their usual nonsense as the weird/awkward young married couple. And then there's the legendary Ron f@#$ing Swanson, played to perfection by Nick Offerman. Seriously, I can't think of a better union between TV character and the actor portraying him than Nick playing Ron. It's awesome, there's no other way around it. The special features include deleted scenes, webisodes, a gag reel, extended episodes and other bonuses. It's a great box set and highly recommended. Pick it up as soon as you can. |
