It’s the final season of Stargate Universe and the ship called Destiny, life for it’s crew is just as tough as it was before as they continue their long journey back to Earth. With them being on this mysterious ship billions of light years away from home, the crew of the Destiny has to face unknown threats, personal issues, problems with other crew members, and the possibility of never making it back to Earth. But with the two head crew members always having to face off with each other one which is right, the military way or the civilized way, the crew of Destiny might not be able to survive themselves no less the long trip through space.

FINAL FLIGHT OF DESTINY:
This final season of Stargate Universe (or commonly known by as well as the title given on the DVD case SGU), is one that surprised me and made me actually want to watch the show. I had watched the last of the season 1 of the show and enjoyed it but because I had only seen the last half of that season I didn’t continue on with the show. With this season I see that I made a mistake in not continuing on with the show. The tension that was felt before between the characters on the show increased a lot more and so did everything else about the show.

As much as I like watching action, intense fights, and have some really cool out of this world science fiction aliens, I love watching a show that’s character driven. This is what make SGU worth watching and what makes it a good show but it also what makes it a show that people don’t want to watch. Because this show has such a large cast of 8 main characters where each story line is based off the reactions the characters have, there’s less action happening in the episodes, fewer alien attacks, and not as much of the science fiction aliens. However, for me it’s because of these reasons that I ended up liking the show.

The characters Dr. Rush (played by Robert Carlyle) and Colonel Young (played by Louis Ferreira) were my two favorite characters of the show. These two characters were always butting heads because they are so different from each other. Where Dr. Rush wanted to do everything he could to get the whole crew back home safely and alive, Colonel Young had no problem with allowing a crew member die if it progressed them further on their trip. This is where the character driven aspect of the story really would kick in and made for some good tension on the show. Plus these two actors really seem to know their characters and were able to really make them come to life. Though the whole cast did a good job with there characters as well. Eli Wallace (played by David Blue) was one of the underplayed characters in my opinon even though by the end of the series it’s made up for. I also liked the character of Tamara Johansen (played by Alaina Huffman) and how well her perfomance of the character is.

Aside from the the good character driven plots of the show, there really is a good underlying storyline that makes the show interesting. Having a crew so far lost in space, which is nothing new but still can be fun to watch, and then having them have all the problems they do just to get back home made for a fun 20 episodes. Though my main objection about a story point is how the crew can have their minds sent to another body on Earth. I get the point of having it in the show, it allows for extra stories that have the characters on Earth and then how they react to being there and then going back to the ship but it felt like a easy way out of writing a better story. I also wasn’t too thrilled with how the show ended but it’s ending at least has a ending. I wasn’t left wondering or at least left in the middle of a plot line where I will never know the outcome. SGU the final season ended up being a fun show to watch and ends well enough where I wasn’t ready to throw the disc across the room.
