Show: Yo Gabba Gabba! Season/Volume: Music Makes Me Move Starring: DJ Lance Rock, Mark Mothersbaugh, Biz Markie Studio: Nickelodeon Runtime: 95 Minutes Release Date: August 9, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B+ Yo Gabba Gabba’s latest DVD release is titled Music Makes Me Move! A collection of 4 rockin’ episodes that include such issues as being different, being patient, keeping active, and overcoming your fears with the help of good friends. As usual the show is full of special guests like Tony Hawk, a recurring role from Mark Mothersbaugh and DJ Lance Rock, as well as some musical guests. There’s every one of the usual reasons your kids will love Yo Gabba Gabba here in this four episode collection. The first episode of the show is titled Band and fits right into the whole scheme of Music Makes Me Move. The Yo Gabba Gabba friends all decide to form a band but they realize straight away that they need to practice. There’s a very good lesson here that I think a lot of kids need to hear. Its all about realizing that just because you buy an instrument, it doesn’t mean your going to become a rock star overnight. Its going to take practice and discipline and only after your hard work will you be able to make the music that you want. The episode covers both this and being patient, which is a virtue no musician can live without. Musical guest Lady Tigra. Up next is Move. I was a little bored with this episode as it didn’t follow in the same fashion as the first, which had a story running straight down its core. Move felt more like a sporadic display of things that involve movement rather then a coherent storyline to keep viewers captivated. Aside form that there was no Super Friends Music Show which was a bit of a let down. Instead the show featured guests like Tony Hawk, Ricky Fitness of The Aquabats, and the Venom Break Dancers. Differences is another solid episode in the set which has Muno in need of glasses (or glass, since he is a Cyclops) and friendship when he starts to realize that by wearing glasses he’s different. When Yo Gabba Gabba is on the show is really on. I particularly liked the show because it teaches kids that being different is okay and the segments in which they taught this lesson were so memorable, especially the short story “Argyle The Octopus” which is cleverly animated and has the cutest narrator to tell the story. Musical guests on this episode are I’m From Barcelona. Finally the last episode is Train. Yet another episode that isn’t rich with story but is kind of fun. The Yo Gabba Gabba friends are building a train and Muno is a bit afraid to get on it and needs the support of his friends. It’s really just another one of those random episodes where there’s not much to it and you won’t be able to find a solid story but it has its little lessons. Again, no Super Friends Music Show. Guests include a segment featuring Biz Markie and former boxing champion Laila Ali. Pictures: |
