Show: Lost Girl Episode(s): Caged Fae, SubterrFaenean Genre: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy Starring: Anna Silk, Ksenia Solo, Kris Holden-Ried, Zoie Palmer, Rick Howland Network: SyFy Airdate/Time: January 14, 2013 10:00pm Rating: ( )Grade: A- Following the shake up from last season things have gotten darker for the femme fatale of Lost Girl. Bo has found unexpected family, well, the type of family that isn’t out for her blood, and a new Ash (acting Ash) is in her inner circle. Sounds like all is finally looking up for Bo, but as we all know, in the Lost Girl universe things are always quiet before the storm. In the last season Bo was told of a power she possess that can do some mighty magic on those around her, but it can also drag her into the dark. Trick gives her a serum to help pull her back from the brink should she ever use her new found gift but season 3 begins with Bo on a crime spree. When Bo heads to The Dal Riata she’s confronted by Dyson, denied sanctuary by Trick, and further worries Kenzi. Looks like it’s the big house for Bo (bet you didn’t see that coming). The prison where Bo is sent is guarded by Amazonian women and headed by a kinky warden who quickly puts Bo in a teddy and has her doing chores in her office. Bo meets her cellmate, a shy timid girl, and finds Lauren in charge of the infirmary inside the prison. Things are not as they seem. Think Death Warrant meets Caged Heat, only this time the Warden isn’t looking to use inmates in the black market organ trade. Strange things are afoot at the prison, but is this the same old Bo who knows right from wrong and is willing to do something about it? In the second episode Dyson finds himself a new partner and is sent to investigate a murder that may involve Fae of some sort. His search leads him to a subterranean Fae species. Meanwhile Kenzi and her new partner are on the same trail and find themselves caught between trying to protect a client, themselves, and more importantly, Bo from Dyson’s new partner who is looking to land her the death sentence for a crime she may or may not have committed. If you’ve come this far with Lost Girl you can expect more of the same. There are some hard to swallow one liners, a lot of sexuality that is both useful to progressing the plot or just there for when the episodes start to lose steam and need a pick up. Still, the show remains a conglomeration of idea’s from its predecessors like Buffy, Dresden Files, X Files, Supernatural, etc. Fortunately the stagnating love story that became a bit overwhelming towards the back end of the first season and spotted throughout the second season is put mostly on the back burner in these two opening episodes. It won’t stay gone forever but we get a break from some of the shows more overdramatic moments. What you can look forward to is the story arc that Bo may or may not have become the nightmare she had originally feared she was. Revelations will suggest both paths but only one can be the truth. You also get to see the evolution of an old character, some interesting twists with the new Ash (acting Ash), and Kenzi, who has since last season really come into her own, becoming more then just Bo’s tag-along. It’ll be an interesting season that I look forward to. It should really appease fans. Enjoy. |
