WELL THAT F-ING SUCKS

In the original script, the "F" word was used 41 times, the "S" word was used 13 times and the "C" word was used 3 times. The uses of these words were later cut down in the final script so as to receive a lower rating of PG-13 (the movie's target audience) as opposed to a rating of R.

Olive Penderghast (Emma Stone) is your average high school student who is smart and friendly but for the most part, goes completely unnoticed. On one particular day however, she inadvertently tells her best friend that she lost her virginity over the weekend, even though the truth is that she did nothing. Well, you know how high school rumors can be and by the end of the day, she became the most noticed girl in school but for all the wrong reasons.

Easy A is a modern day version of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter with a slight twist. The twist being that she never really did have sex with anyone. Emma Stone manages to pull off the whole bookworm student persona coupled with being a complete hottie as well. She's actually quite normal compared to some of the other crazies at her school. Crazies such as the God loving Marianne (Amanda Bynes). She's one of those characters who so extreme it becomes laughable.

Once the rumors of her scandalous sexcapades start, there really is no stopping it. So, like any intelligent person, Olive decides to make a business out of it and let people say they did something with her for a price. Naturally, things spiral out of control and before you know it, she's the whore of the school. While Stone isn't all that funny in the film, she does carry herself well in showing both her sexy side and vulnerable side of the situation.

Probably the majority of laughs will come as a result from Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson as the parents of Olive. Don't be fooled though as they are nothing like normal parents. They're the type of parents you probably wish you had in high school. More of a friend than a parent I would say. Regardless, Tucci and Clarkson manage to make you bust out laughing in every scene they're in.

What makes the film work so well is the great cast. Each character is so wildly different from the rest and are hilarious in their own ways. Even the typically morose Thomas Haden Church puts on a decent performance. There's also Lisa Kudrow, Malcolm McDowell, Dan Byrd, and Alyson Michalka; each having at least one highly memorable scene.

Easy A is a fresh and hilarious comedy that will have you laughing all over the place. The story will draw you in and the characters will keep you wanting more. So is it an easy A? I'd say more like an easy A-.
