Because sometimes studios just can't play nice, Lionsgate has made a grab for Paranormal Activity 2's director, Kevin Greutert -- and there's not much he can do about it. Greutert, who directed Saw VI for Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, had an option in his contract that would allow the two studios to call him back to helm another Saw film. So when Lionsgate saw that he was set to direct Paramount's Paranormal Activity 2 with a release date of October 22, 2010, they decided to block their competitor by installing Greutert as the director of Saw 3D with the same scheduled release date. With shooting on Saw 3D beginning in just two weeks, it doesn't seem like Greutert will have a lot of time to work on two competing horror films with the same release date -- which was clearly Lionsgate's goal. Meanwhile, Deadline's sources say that David Hackl, who was supposed to direct Saw 3D, will soon be assigned to another production. |
