>> Broken City Star Mark Wahlberg and Director Honor Community Leaders

Actor Mark Wahlberg and director Allen Hughes were in Atlanta this week to honor former Atlanta Falcons player Warrick Dunn and City of Atlanta detective Patrick Apoian for their charitable contributions to the community.

In town to promote their upcoming crime-thriller Broken City, Wahlberg and Hughes wanted to show appreaciation to those who have gone above and beyond for their communities.

Former NFL running back Warrick Dunn created the Warrick Dunn Charities to provide "programs and services for single parents who are committed to achieving stability for themselves and their children." In the 15 years of its existance, WDC has helped more than 100parents and 300 children across Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Atlanta, Tampa, Tallahassee and Dallas.

Local Atlanta police officer Patrick Apoian founded Humble Heroes, a charity which assists "police officers, firefighters, and their families by providing financial and moral support to those who have been seriously injured or fallen ill." In 2011 Apoian was injured in the line of duty during a routine traffic stop. At the red carpet premiere he spoke candidly about the night that put him in critical condition at the hospital, and how he spoke to his family to tell them he loved them.

Like Dunn and Apoian, Mark Wahlberg is actively involved with charible organizations, having fouded the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and worked with many others as well. In promoting Broken City, he hopes that he can bring greater attention to various charitable organizations that have helped so many others.

The film stars Wahlberg as Billy Taggart, a former NYC cop turned private investigator who uncovers a conspiracy of corruption with the city mayor. Confronted with his dark past, he must decide to bring the mayor to justice or turn a blind eye to the whole thing. Broken City is due out in theaters January 18th.
