After a finale that was down 9 percent year-over-year, Fox seems to be making some changes to the format of So You Think You Can Dance. Executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe tweeted Sunday that the results show has been axed. “#FOX have cancelled the results show so I will have to change the format of #SYTYCD. At least we have another season at the end of MAY.” The network renewed the twice-a-week dancing competition series in October, after the summer staple ranked No. 1 in its time period among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic as well as tops in adults 18-34 and teens. The Season 8 finale, which crowned Melanie Moore its champion, declined 9 percent from its 2010 finale. Fox officials could not be reached for comment. While it’s unclear how the changes will impact what could now be a once-a-week series, Lythgoe returned to Twitter shortly after breaking the news to reassure SYTYCD fans. “Don't worry #SYTYCD fans. I'm thrilled we have a new series. We'll do our best to find some great talent starting next week in Atlanta,” he wrote. SYTYCD Season 9 will bow in the summer. |
