Coming out of Orlando is the next boy band Before You Exit with their new EP I Like That. This band is formed by 3 brothers, Conner, Riley, and Toby McDonough, who sing about what all boy bands do, girls and what they will do to get them and/or keep them. What else are the songs about? Nothing, they’re all the same and are the same as all the other young boy bands out in the world. This band is young, both in their age and in their talent as a musical group.
Should the age matter, well it does only because you can hear it in their songs. When listening to the songs what I heard are songs that sound exactly the same as all the other boy bands playing songs. Each song is formatted the same way, the beats stay the same, the vocal tempos are the same, and the lyrics are all the same. I could easily put any set of words to these beats and with the same high pitch vocals it would sound the same way. There’s no originality to the songs and that’s the biggest downfall for this group.
It’s possible that I could get past the young swooning love lyrics of the songs if they just had a different beat to them. On this EP are 6 songs but if the breaks between songs where taken out they could really be one song lasting 20 minutes. What’s lacking is any changing in harmony, tempo, and overall sound from song to song. The vocals are kept at the same rate and levels and the lyrics all have the same meaning. For only last right at 20 minutes it felt a lot longer because wasn’t hearing anything different while it was playing.
