The O’s are a Texas-based band that has been together since 2008. Their sound is similar to Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes. Their style is described as melodic and catchy folk-pop. They are gearing up to release their 3rd full-length album, entitled “Thunderdog” on July 23rd, 2013. Shakefire had the opportunity to review the album before its public release.
I am normally not a big fan of folk, but was actually surprised by The O’s and their new album. Their lyrics were cleverly written and their vocals were impressive. However, it was their instrumentals and song choices that made this album so fun to listen to. “Thunderdog” is a folk album, but felt a lot more relatable with more mass appeal than other folk albums that I have heard before. My favorite songs were “You are the Light” and “Running Games.”
The only minor gripe I had were that some of the songs felt a bit too long and drawn out. Other than that, this was a very well-crafted album. If you are a fan of Mumford & Sons, anything by the O’s is sure to be perfect for you. For those reasons, I am giving “Thunderdog” a “B+.”
