Happy Feet Two (BLU-RAY)

The original Happy Feet garnered critical praise from almost everywhere and while Happy Feet Two doesn’t quite live up to its predecessor, it does manage to carry its own rhythm and tune. In the sequel, Mumble and Gloria have a son, Erik, who hasn’t exactly found a reason for dancing yet. His shyness eventually leads him to Sven, a penguin who has the rare ability to fly. Meanwhile, global warming has caused the ice to crack and trap the penguin colony. It’s now  up to Mumble and his son to save Emperor Land from being destroyed.

QUALITY:
Happy Feet Two is one of the most beautiful animated films of 2011. The attention to detail is captured wonderfully on the Blu-ray, especially when it’s from the viewpoint of Will and Bill the Krill. Individual ice crystals glisten in the light and animals become larger than life for our tiny little crustaceans. The audio isn’t that bad either. Songs comes across clean and crisp and there are no syncing issues to behold. Dr. D Studios does a fine job at bringing the Artic to life.

BONUS FEATURES:
- Helping Penguins and Pals
- How to Draw a Penguin
- I Taut I Taw a Putty Tat
- 3 Sing-A-Longs
- Running with Boadicea
- The Amazing Voices of Happy Feet 2
- Pink's New Song

There’s a decent amount of bonus content included on the Blu-ray. The “Helping Penguins and Pals” is a documentary type feature that details the various penguins and other animals seen in the movie, with the help of Lil P-Nut aka Atticus from the film. “I Taut I Taw a Putty Tat” is the Looney Toons animated short that appeared before the film in theaters. There is also an iPod app you can download to experience even more bonus features while you watch the film. Finally, the Blu-ray includes a DVD and an Ultraviolet Digital Copy of the film as well.

Overall, Happy Feet Two is a great Blu-ray release of a slightly above average film. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s definitely worth picking up.
