Kevin Hart may be a little man but he can garner some big laughs. His passion and energetic performances are what have made him the star comedian that he is today. Last year he travelled the world during his sold out Let Me Explain tour and filmed the experience for his latest film. If you’ve never seen a Kevin Hart performance in person, this is as close as you’re going to get.

The film opens with a cheesy scripted party scene in New York where Hart becomes the butt of all the jokes. Tired of getting made fun of, he makes an announcement that he will be going to Madison Square Garden to “explain” everything. From there, it’s essentially a live taping of his performance, complete with random bouts of flames shooting up from the stage.

Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain is a treat for fans of the comedian and will no doubt make fans out of those who aren’t. I’ve never seen his standup act before, but he’s been in plenty of films and has always garnered a laugh when on screen. Let Me Explain is just a barrage of one joke after another. He’s a fast talker so while the 75 minute running time seems a little short, there’s still plenty of content.

Oftentimes Hart will rant about a single subject for minutes, going off on random tangents before returning to the punchline of a joke. He’s always talking about something, and more likely than not, graphically illustrating it as well. He’s very dynamic in his routine, which only adds to his allure. Hearing him talk about how you spot a crazy woman is one thing, but watching him demonstrate it is completely different.

Other notable jokes include an explanation of why he was late to work one day, which involved a man baby and a deerbra – a cross between a deer and zebra, although I prefer a zebreer. There’s also one particularly hilarious joke about bums that’ll change the way you view them forever. The film has plenty of memorable moments like these and will make you want to go and see a Kevin Hart standup show.

Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain is one of the better standup films I’ve seen in recent memory. While it’s a little on the short side, it’s packed full with some great humor and wonderful performances by Hart at Madison Square Garden. Even if you see him while touring, this is one worth watching again on the big screen.
